The response to the Ethereum developers' decision to block ASIC miners' access to the Ethereum network was the intention of the Chinese mining company Linzhi to develop a new ASIC miner that will make it possible to mine Ethereum (ETH) using a new algorithm – ProgPoW. The Linzhi company was shocked by the decision of ETH developers to integrate the new ProgPoW solution into the ETH cryptocurrency mining system, which will make it possible to minimize the influence of ASIC equipment, with mining instead taking place using GPU devices, and decided to develop a miner that will be able to mine the cryptocurrency using the ProgPoW solution. A Linzhi top-management representative, Wolfgang Spraul, stated: "Today I publicly declare that we are ready to develop ASIC miners to work with the ProgPoW algorithm. We can present a miner for ProgPoW that will be 3-8 times more efficient."
According to supporters of introducing the ProgPoW mining algorithm, GPU equipment will become more competitive in mining ether. Some developers are confident that if an ASIC miner is adapted to work using the ProgPoW solution, it will be roughly comparable in efficiency to traditional equipment.
