Indian authorities have temporarily blocked the Telegram messenger across the entire country until June 22. The decision followed an official statement by the National Testing Agency. According to the agency, organized fraud groups were actively using the platform. With the help of the messenger, criminals were deceiving applicants ahead of the re-sit of the NEET medical exam, which is scheduled for June 21.
India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology prepared a special order. The agency relied on Section 69A of the relevant Information Technology Act. This provision allows government bodies to promptly restrict access to various internet resources. As a rule, such measures are applied to protect the state’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.

India blocked Telegram ahead of the NEET 2026 re-sit exam
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is of enormous importance for the future of Indian youth. It is this exam that determines the list of students who will be able to enroll in medical and dental universities. Around 2.2 million people took part in the first round of testing, held on May 3. However, the National Testing Agency (NTA) annulled those results as early as May 12. The main reason for the drastic decision was a proven leak of examination materials. In connection with the incident, officials promptly rescheduled the tests for June 21.
