Ledger, a company specializing in the production of hardware wallets for storing Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, has presented the Ledger Nano X — an improved version of the Ledger Nano S. The new model has Bluetooth support, a wider screen, and a larger amount of data storage space — the Ledger Nano X will be able to store information about 100 crypto assets, which is six times more than the Ledger Nano S.
Bluetooth support in combination with the new mobile version of the Ledger Live app also means that users will be able to make transactions at any time without the need to have access to a desktop computer or laptop.
In addition, the Ledger Nano X will be equipped with a rechargeable battery, which will allow the device to operate without the need to be connected to a computer via USB.
Commenting on the assumptions that the presence of Bluetooth support could make it easier for hackers to break into the device, Ledger CEO Eric Larcheveque wrote on Reddit: "The Nano X operates already assuming that the Bluetooth connection is compromised. Adding BLE does not affect security in any way — transactions must always be physically verified by pressing both buttons on the device. In addition, in the Nano X the screens and buttons are directly connected to the Secure Element, and this is yet another improvement in overall security."
The new model of the Ledger Nano X hardware wallet was presented at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. And according to The Verge, pre-orders for the Ledger Nano X (priced at $119 including shipping) start as early as January 7, and deliveries will begin in March. The Ledger Live mobile app will be available in the iOS App Store and Google Play on January 28.
It is also worth noting that the CES organizers honored the new device from the French company with an award in the Innovation Award in Cyber Security and Personal Privacy category.
