A QR code (QR code) is a two-dimensional barcode in the form of a square with a black-and-white pattern that encodes a set of data. Unlike an ordinary linear barcode, a QR code stores information along two axes, which allows it to hold a significantly larger amount of symbolic information. Such a code is read by a smartphone camera or a special scanner, after which the device instantly recognizes the encoded data.
In the cryptocurrency field QR codes have become widespread thanks to their convenience. Wallet addresses are long strings of characters, and manual entry increases the risk of an error that could send funds to the wrong place. A QR code solves this problem: it is enough to point the camera to correctly transmit the recipient's address, the transfer amount or the payment details.
Where QR codes are used in crypto
- Displaying and scanning wallet addresses for sending and receiving funds.
- Connecting and logging in to mobile and desktop applications.
- Paying for goods and services at outlets that accept cryptocurrency.
Despite the convenience, it is important to be careful: scan codes only from trusted sources and always verify the recognized address before confirming an operation, since a fake code can direct the transfer to an attacker.
