A listing is the process of placing a cryptocurrency, token or project on a trading resource, primarily a cryptocurrency exchange. After listing, the asset receives trading pairs, is displayed in the venue's catalog and becomes available to a wide range of users for buying, selling and holding.
For a project, getting onto a major exchange is an important development milestone. A listing expands the audience, increases recognition and, as a rule, raises the asset's liquidity thanks to an influx of new participants. Exchanges, in turn, vet the project: they study the team, the technology, the legal side and compliance with the venue's internal requirements.
Types of listing
- Paid — the project pays for placement, which is typical of some commercial venues.
- Free — the exchange adds the asset on its own initiative, based on its demand and quality.
In addition to the classic listing, there is also a reverse procedure — delisting, that is, removing an asset from a venue, for example for rule violations or a drop in interest. The mere fact of a listing is not a guarantee of a project's reliability: the user should still independently assess the risks before any operations with the asset.
