Sapphire will soon launch into mass production a new version of the Radeon RX 570 graphics card. Unlike the standard Radeon RX 570 cards equipped with 4 or 8 GB, the new Radeon RX 570 Nitro+ graphics card will be equipped with 16 GB of GDDR5 memory and will be aimed not at gaming but at cryptocurrency mining. More precisely, at mining the specific cryptocurrency Grin, whose launch took place on January 15.
Grin is based on the MimbleWimble protocol and the Cuckoo Cycle PoW hashing algorithm, which is capable of loading up to 11 GB of video memory, which explains the unusual specifications of the new graphics board, and the 16 GB of memory on board the Radeon RX 570 Nitro+ will allow the card's performance to be significantly increased compared to ASIC miners, Sapphire believes.
The graphics card is made in the traditional Nitro+ design with a dual-fan cooler and uses sixteen GDDR5 memory chips, as well as some GPU overclocking. The new version differs from the standard one only in that it uses not eight but sixteen GDDR5 memory chips, which are soldered on both sides of the printed circuit board.
The price, as well as the sales start date of the Sapphire Radeon RX 570 Nitro+ with 16 GB of memory, have not yet been specified, but there were statements that the figures would be at least three times lower than those of competitors with similar specifications.
