A riser (riser) is a hardware adapter by means of which a graphics card is connected to the motherboard not directly into the slot but through a flexible cable and an adapter board. This device is widely used when assembling mining rigs, where several graphics cards need to be used simultaneously on a single motherboard.
Why a riser is needed
The standard slots on a motherboard are located too close to one another, so it is physically impossible to install several large graphics cards next to each other. A riser solves this task: it moves the card a distance away from the board, which ensures free placement of the equipment and normal air circulation for cooling.
- it allows several graphics cards to be connected to a single motherboard;
- it improves airflow and heat dissipation from the cards;
- it simplifies mounting the equipment on the rig frame.
The quality of a riser directly affects the stability of the rig: unreliable adapters and power connectors can lead to failures and overheating. That is why, when assembling equipment, the choice and correct connection of risers are treated carefully.
